ESL program and Intensive English Language Program (IELP)

Our ESL program provides students the ability to learn and improve their English skills and advance up to College level English. College of the Canyons’ Intensive English Language Program (IELP) is intended for English learners whose ultimate goal is to enter a college-level course of study for a certificate program, an associate degree, and/or a transfer program to a 4-year university. The curriculum is intentionally designed in such that it addresses academic topics that would prepare students, upon completion of the IELP program, to succeed in entry-level college classes. To that end, English learners are expected to engage in full-time study of 20 hours of instruction a week, for a minimum of 3 sessions for 8 weeks per session. In addition to the ESL courses, our TLC (The Learning Center) offers free supplemental tutoring to improve in specific areas like grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, improving speaking skills and cultural assimilation.
