About the institution
East Los Angeles College (ELAC) is a comprehensive transfer community college that serves the San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles, California. East Los Angeles College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The college has a tradition of over sixty years of commitment to providing a quality education in a safe and comfortable academic learning environment. East Los Angeles College serves over 37,000 students on an 82 acres site which was one of the sites for the 1984 Olympics. The campus is facilitated with air condition smart classrooms, a full research library, free internet access for students, a bookstore, a university transfer center, a police department, a fitness center, several theater stages, an indoor swimming pool, and two gymnasiums.
East Los Angeles College is a very diverse and large community college in a metropolitan. Approximately 58% of the general student population is female and 42% are male. Over 64% of the student body is in the age range between 18 and 25. The international student body mirrors the general population. We currently host international students from 31 countries.
ESL program and/or support services
East Los Angeles College does not have an ESL Language Program. Our ESL courses are embedded in our credit bearing ESL Discipline within the English Department. New students are assessed for their English level upon entrance into the college. Depending on their level, students may be assessed into different levels of ESL courses ranging from level 1 (ESL 3A) to level 5 (ESL 8).
Student Housing options
East LA College does not have our own housing facilities for students. International Students generally live in apartments close to campus, or rent room in houses within the community. We offer links on our website to apartments and services that have been used by our staff, current students or alumni.

Student activities and campus life
East Los Angeles College offers many social and cultural opportunities to experience life in the United States. Within the college campus, students may participate in a variety of club sponsored activities and cultural events. The college Intercollegiate Athletics offers 16 competitive sports such as American football, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. Students may participate or attend dance, music, and theater performances. The college is also home to the Vincent Price Art Museum which hosts exhibitions by contemporary American and World artists.
