The University of California, San Diego Extension International Programs (IP) is a department of UC San Diego, which provides international students and professionals an opportunity to advance career and academic objectives. UC San Diego Extension IP offers short-term and intensive English language programs, university credit programs (short-term study abroad), customized programs, and professional certificates to help students and professionals achieve their academic and career goals. Extension International Programs presents a great environment to learn, network, and have access to UC San Diego’s many world-renown resources.

ESL program and/or support services

UC San Diego Extension International Programs’ English Language Institute (ELI) is CEA accredited and offers short-term and intensive English language programs for all levels of English language proficiency. Testing at the beginning of the each program will determine students’ placement. There are 12 levels of English language instruction, and there 2-, 4-, and 8-week program offerings may include the following topics:

• Academic English through Service Learning

• Academic English

• Business English

• Conversation and Fluency

• Communication and Culture

• English for Engineering and Technology

• English for Pharmaceutical Studies

• ESL Youth Programs

• IELTS and TOEFL Preparation

Internship opportunities

Internships are included with the Business Essentials and the Business Management professional certificate programs. Students who complete 9 months of consecutive study in a non-language program are also eligible to apply to Optional Practical Training (OPT). For more information please go to: Internships

Our Activities Manager organizes opportunities for you to meet American students, experience nearby attractions, and have fun. Here are some of the activities she arranges:

Some activities, such as the Day at the Bay and the Conversation Cafés, are free of charge. Others require payment to cover transportation and admission tickets.
